Professor Igor Rodnianski will share the American Mathematical Society's 2023 B么cher Memorial Prize with Frank Merle, Pierre Rapha毛l, and J茅r茅mie Szeftel for "their groundbreaking work establishing the existence of blow-up solutions to the defocusing NLS equation in some supercritical regimes and to the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations."
The continues: This breathtaking achievement, which greatly enhances our understanding of dispersive PDEs and of fluid dynamics, is exposed in a monumental series of three articles: "On the implosion of a compressible fluid II: singularity formation," Annals of 外网天堂 196 (2022); "On the implosion of a compressible fluid I: smooth self-similar inviscid profiles," Annals of 外网天堂 196 (2022); and "On blow up for the energy super critical defocusing nonlinear Schr枚dinger equations," Inventiones Mathematicae 227 (2022)."
The B么cher Prize is awarded for a notable paper in analysis published during the preceding six years. The work must be published in a recognized, peer-reviewed venue. The prize, historically the first offered by the AMS, was founded in memory of Maxime B么cher, who served as president of the AMS from 1909 to 1910.
The 2023 prize will be awarded during the Joint Prize Session at the 2023 Joint 外网天堂 Meetings in Boston.
