Hitomezashi patterns, which originate from traditional听Japanese embroidery, are intricate arrangements of unit-length line听segments called stitches. The stitches connect to form hitomezashi听strands and hitomezashi loops, which divide the plane into regions.听This talk will discuss the delicate techniques that Noah Kravitz and I听developed to understand hitomezashi patterns, along with the听deceptively simple-looking results that we proved using these听techniques.
